Choosing an Early Learning Program in Ahmedabad: A Parent's Checklist
Ahmedabad has dozens of playgroups, brain academies, and enrichment classes. Here's a no-BS checklist to pick the right one for your 2–5 year old.
If you search "early learning program Ahmedabad", you'll find forty. Playgroups, brain academies, right-brain training, abacus, phonics, Montessori-inspired, Reggio-inspired, franchise, independent. Each promises to make your child smart.
How do you actually choose?
After running trial sessions with 50+ Ahmedabad families and talking to many who had tried other programs, here's the checklist I give my own friends.
1. Age-appropriate, not ambition-appropriate
If the brochure promises your 3-year-old will read Hindi + English + do single-digit math — that's ambition-appropriate, not age-appropriate. Red flag.
Actual age-appropriate goals for 2–5:
- Attention span grows 10 → 20 → 30 minutes
- Follows 2 → 3 → 4 step instructions
- Expresses emotions in words
- Holds a pencil with tripod grip by 4
- Basic number sense to 20 by 5
- Rich vocabulary, tells stories
2. Qualified lead educator
Not a franchise trainer who did a 2-week course. Look for:
- Paediatric / developmental background (OT, physio, psychologist, early-childhood educator)
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with this age group
- Willingness to meet you personally
3. Small batch size
Under 8 children per educator. Over 8 and the session becomes crowd-control, not teaching. Ask the exact number.
4. A real curriculum document
Ask: "Can I see the month 1 curriculum?" If they can't share it in written form, they don't have one. A pitch deck doesn't count.
5. Parent-facing progress tracking
Monthly reports. Photo updates. Showcase events. Without these you can't tell if it's working.
6. Safety + hygiene (especially offline)
- Sanitised toys and materials
- Allergen policy for sensory play
- Pickup/drop-off policy
- Parent waiting area or live camera
7. The gut test
Visit. Watch 10 minutes of a session. If the educator is engaged with the children (not their phone), if the children are into it (not compliant), you've likely found a good one.
Typical Ahmedabad pricing benchmarks (2026)
- Playgroup (daycare): ₹8–15k/month
- Enrichment class (2x/week): ₹2–4k/month
- Brain academy franchise: ₹3–6k/month
- Personalised programs: ₹4–8k/month
If you're paying over ₹4k/month, you should be getting small batches, qualified educators, and measurable progress. Not just a coloured room.
